2006 Newbery Medal and Honor books were recently announced. You can visit the American Library Association's page here to see the full list. The 2006 Newbery Medal winner is Criss Cross, by Lynne Rae Perkins. Past winners include Holes by Louis Sachar, and The Giver by Lois Lowry.

Looking ahead: We've begun planning our annual Summer Reading Challenge. The theme--"Reading: The Sport of Champions!" Look forward to lots of sports-related, physical fun as we tie in the joy of reading with the pleasure of activity. Sign up begins May 30 at the G.P. libraries, and the Challenge will run through July 30. More details to come.
