The Grand Prairie Public Library in conjunction with the Grand Prairie Arts Council will host the Lois Weber Film Festival July 24 through July 30 at the Uptown Theater, 120 E. Main St. The Festival will be a week of film presentations that will examine the role of women directors in the past and present, and across the globe.

Features will include "Winter's Bone", "Twilight", "Wayne's World", and "The Kids Are All Right." The Festival will open with "The Blot", directed by Lois Weber, for whom the Festival and the Library's collection of movies directed by women is named.

Festival tickets will be available at the Uptown box office by calling 972-237-8786 or purchase online at www.artsgp.com. 1 one-day ticket is $6. A week-long ticket package is $36. When you purchase at the box office and show your Grand Prairie library card, save $2 off a day ticket, and $16 off a week-long ticket package.

Children's author Shirley Duke appears at all 3 branches as part of the Summer Reading Challenge

Shirley's show about creativity, writing and books will spark the imagination of every child. Shirley writes fiction as well as nonfiction.
