Hunger Games Survival Skills: Would you survive the Games?

Warmack Branch: Wednesday, March 21 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Grades 7-12

Main Library: Thursday, March 22 from 4 to 6 pm. Ages 11 & up.

Bowles Branch: Thursday, March 22 from 4 to 5 pm. Ages 8 & up.

Today!

One of the surviving Tuskegee Airmen of World War II, Claude R. Platte, will speak about his wartime and post-war experiences at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Betty Warmack Branch Library, 760 Bardin Road, in Grand Prairie. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American aviators in the U.S. armed forces. The story of the Airmen has also recently been produced into the movie “Red Tails,” currently showing in theaters.

Platte served as a primary flight instructor, training more than 300 African-American pilots to solo and fly PT-13’s, PT-17’s and PT-19’s. Assigned to the 301st Fight Squadron, Platte was the first African-American officer to be trained and commissioned in the Air Force Pilot Training Program at Randolph Field AFB, Texas, the “West Point of the Air.” The Dallas Chapter of Tuskegees Inc., a non-profit organization devoted to education and recognition of Tuskegee Airmen, was named in his honor.

Main Library: Teen Craft Time at 4:30 pm. Learn how to make a cool recycled purse out of two bandannas. All supplies provided.

Warmack Branch: Polar Express Party at 6 pm. Families are invited to come celebrate the favorite holiday book.

The next storytime at the Main Library will be Tuesday, October 25th.

The next storytime at the Warmack Branch will be on Wednesday, October 26.

"The World of World Book" uses our new World Book Encyclopedia to show kids in grades 3 & 4 how to research facts for fun or homework. Wednesday, October 19 at 5 pm. Main Library.

Drop by the Main Library for a family afternoon of spooky crafts. “Halloween Crafts” will be Sunday, October 30th, at 3pm. Open to children ages 12 and under.

Crafternoon at the Bowles Library will be at 7 pm on Monday, October 31.

Storytimes are back at the Main and Warmack Libraries!

Storytime at the Main Library is on Tuesday at 11 am. Sept. 20 & 27, Oct. 4.

Storytime at the Warmack Branch is at 10 am on Wednesday. Sept. 21 & 28, Oct. 5 & 12.
At each location, storytimes run for 4 consecutive weeks, then take a one-week break.

Catch the Gingerbread Man! Revisit the classic tale of the Gingerbread Man before beginning a search for him in the library. Join us for a hilarious evening listening to recordings of the rich and famous whose ventures into the music biz were far from spectacular at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27, at the Warmack Branch Library, 760 Bardin Road.

Authors/disc jockeys Pat Reeder and George Gimarc introduce you to the world of celebrity vanity song recordings. They are the co-authors of “Hollywood Hi-Fi,” the hilarious history of obscure celebrity recordings.

“Hollywood Hi-Fi” exposes in affectionate but laugh-out-loud style some of the woebegone musical side projects of the most famous names in showbiz history including Bette Davis, Clint Eastwood, Sylvester Stallone, Burt Reynolds, Jack Webb, Joan Rivers and many more. In their uproarious live presentation, Pat and George share the stories of how these long-buried projects were born, show priceless collector’s item LP covers and play actual clips of the stars’ astounding musical virtuosity.
